Database Backup Guide

 

The MeterChecker Backup-Feature enables you to create backup files of your current MeterChecker data.

\\ Create a backup

To create a backup just follow these easy steps.

  1. If MeterChecker is no already running, please open MeterChecker.
  2. In the tab bar select the tab “Backup”.
  3. The “Backups” dialog opens. There tap on the “Create new backup” button.
  4. A new backup is created and listed in the backups list below.

The backup contains all MeterChecker data, except the images!

\\ Restore a backup

To restore a backup just follow these easy steps.

  1. If MeterChecker is no already running, please open MeterChecker.
  2. In the tab bar select the tab “Backup”.
  3. Select the wanted entry in the backups list.
  4. Slide the shown slider completely to the right.
  5. Confirm the acknowledge dialog with “Yes”. Tapping “No” will cancel the restoration process.
  6. The backup is now restored.
  7. After the restoration of the backup MeterChecker has to be restarted. Thus the application will be closed automatically after the two subsequent acknowledge dialogs have been confirmed with “OK”.
  8. After restart of MeterChecker the restored data is available as usual.

The backup files contain all MeterChecker data, except the used images. Thus, after restoration, it is possible that the applied object images are not shown any more. The images have to be assigned manually again.

\\ Delete a backup

To delete a backup just follow these easy steps.

  1. If MeterChecker is no already running, please open MeterChecker.
  2. In the tab bar select the tab “Backup”.
  3. In the “Backups” dialog tap on the button “Edit” in the upper right corner.
  4. The entries in the backups list can now be marked and deleted as usual.
  5. Confirm the deletion actions by tapping on the “Ready” button.

The backup files can also be deleted using iTunes (see therefore next chapter).

\\ Accessing the backup files

MeterChecker allows you to access your backup files using the iTunes File Sharing feature.

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with your computer.
  2. If not automatically started, please open iTunes.
  3. Select your device in the left navigation bar.
  4. Open the “Apps” tab in the right overview window and scroll down.
  5. After the synchronization settings you find the File Sharing feature.
  6. Select MeterChecker in the list of applications.
  7. The MeterChecker Backup files will be listed in the right list.
    MeterChecker backup files follow this naming convention: “MeterChecker Backup on yyyy-mm-dd hh/mm/ss +zzzz – n.backup”.
    Example: “MeterChecker Backup on 2010-08-06 20/19/57 +0200 – 1.backup”.
  8. Select the needed file and click on “Save as…” to store the backup file on your computer.

Caution:

Never delete or rename the file “marlbrook.db”!
Please take care that MeterChecker is closed when accessing the files. MeterChecker should also be removed from the multitasking bar!

Warning:

MeterChecker gives you free access on all your data and files as well as the productive data basis through the iTunes File Sharing feature. Thus this should be handled only with extreme caution. Incorrect use may result in the loss of data.
Renaming and deleting of backup files only at one’s own risk. No liability for damages or loss of data is assumed!

\\ Renaming backup files

The backup files can be renamed for better understanding as long as the following naming rules are observed.

  1. The backup files can only renamed using iTunes (see section above).
  2. The name of the backup file must start with “MeterChecker “. Attention: A blank must be entered after “MeterChecker”!
  3. The name of the backup file must have the suffix “.backup”.

Examples for valid backup file names:

“MeterChecker Stand vom 01.01.2010.backup”,
“MeterChecker Nach Verkauf Schlossallee.backup” oder
“MeterChecker Vor Renovierung am 01.05. um 08:00 Uhr.backup”.
